Developments in Transportation

Over the years, transportation has developed from the early days of rickshaw to modern day transportation that are driven by steam, electricity and fuel. In the 21st century, there are more modes of transportation with greater speed, size / capacity, range and fuel efficiency.

Examples

• Boeing and Airbus jumbo jets could fit hundreds of passengers in the cabin and also allow cargoes to be filled in the cargo compartment. The development of aircrafts in terms of capacity (seats and cargoes) and also range (longer distance non-stop) have connected people and linked activities across the globe with a phenomenal rate that was not seen before.

• With developments in planes that could fly long distance non-stop, passengers could fly from Singapore to New York within 18 hours. This is much shorter compared to the past where passengers would need to transit and one would need more than a day.
