Excretion

• IS NOT EXCRETION:

  • Sweat - increase heat loss
  • Faeces - remove undigested food, fibre mucus and bacteria

• IS EXCRETION

  • Breathing - removal of carbon dioxide from the lungs

• Process of Dialysis

  • Reference to the patient's blood components and the dialysis fluid
  • Separation of the blood and fluid by dialysis membrane
  • Reference to selectively permeable nature of the membrane
  • Reference to the diffusion
  • Reference to waste products(named) that passed out of the blood into the dialysis fluid
  • Indication that the membrane prevented the movement of large molecules such as protein

• Metabolic waste is toxic/poisonous not harmful

• Must use specific terms in describing the function of nephron/

Urea is excreted in the urine, not waste products excreted in the urine.

Small molecules such as water and urea are being forced out of the glomerulus into the Bowman capsule

• Function of venule:
  • Allow water from the filtrate in the kidney tubule to be reabsorbed back into blood
