Animal Nutrition

  • Function of Liver

    • Stores glycogen, iron and vitamins
    • Converts excess glucose into fats
    • Deamination to form urea
    • Iron storage
    • Detoxification
    • Bile production
  • Emulsification:

    • DOES NOT involve decrease in the size of fat molecules
    • IS NOT the breakdown of fat into fatty acid and glycerol
  • Digestion:

    • Amylase do not 'break down' starch to maltose (break down could refer to physical breakdown)
    • Starch molecule is too large to pass through the Visking tubing

In digestion, amylase digests starch to maltose. Maltose is a small molecule which can diffuse through Visking tubing.
