Plant Nutrition and Transport
- Amino acid and sucrose can be translocated
- Starch cannot be translocated
For substances to be translocated, they need to be in solution
-
Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves, not just loss of water from plants
-
Turgor pressure:
Water in plant cells push against the cellulose cell walls and created turgor pressure. Surrounding cells push against each other creating support for the plant
-
Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast
-
Chlorophyll is the green pigment
-
Xylem - lacking in protoplasm
-
Phloem - degenerative cytoplasm, sieve tubes
