Plant Nutrition and Transport

  • Amino acid and sucrose can be translocated
  • Starch cannot be translocated

For substances to be translocated, they need to be in solution

  • Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves, not just loss of water from plants

  • Turgor pressure:

Water in plant cells push against the cellulose cell walls and created turgor pressure. Surrounding cells push against each other creating support for the plant

  • Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplast

  • Chlorophyll is the green pigment

  • Xylem - lacking in protoplasm

  • Phloem - degenerative cytoplasm, sieve tubes
